Kendra Hammond Yandell, DDS

Passion for lifelong learning, knowledge of science, interaction with other people, and guidance from her father all led Dr. Kendra Hammond Yandell to the general dentistry profession. Dr. Kendra, DDS, has enjoyed providing excellent dental care in her hometown of Poteau, OK, for over 17 years. Her late father, Dr. Ken Hammond, DDS, owned and operated his dental practice in Poteau since 1975. Dr. Kendra grew up around his practice, helping in every position to deliver gentle, high quality dental care. After she graduated from Poteau High School in 2000 and completed her bachelor’s degree in Zoology at the University of Oklahoma in 2004, it was an easy career path decision. She graduated with special distinction from the University of Oklahoma’s College of Dentistry in 2008 and was recognized with several awards from the Prosthodontics, Endodontic, Pediatric and Operative Departments in addition to receiving the Senior Dental Student Award and the Quintessence Award. She also was inducted in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society.

Instead of pursuing a specialty degree, Dr. Kendra decided to return to Poteau to practice dentistry with her father. She officially purchased the practice in 2010 and then built a new clinic three years later. She re-named the practice Hammond Family Dental in respect and gratitude of her father’s hard work.

Dr. Kendra, her family, and her dental team have worked hard to create a patient experience that provides the highest quality dentistry in a gentle, relaxing atmosphere. She is committed to lifelong education and is dedicated to going above and beyond what is required for her continuing education. Each year she attends courses at the Kois Center in Seattle as well as various local courses covering topics from endodontics to dental technology. She has had extra training in full mouth rehabilitation, airway screening, periodontics, and more. Working to achieve fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, she is an active member in the following:

  • American Dental Association
  • Oklahoma Dental Association
  • Eastern District Dental Society
  • American & Oklahoma Associations of Women Dentists

Dr. Kendra and her husband Chad Yandell, a pharmacist at Rubin White Clinic, are blessed with two healthy children, Hammond and Anna Claire. Away from the clinic, Dr. Kendra attends various extracurricular activities with her children and enjoys nature.

Dr. Kendra feels blessed to have come full circle to live and to serve professionally in her hometown. She and her husband serve on several church and community councils, and Hammond Family Dental is involved in various community organizations. Thankful for the blessings surrounding her, Dr. Kendra strives to continue providing the highest level of quality dental care and to serve the community. She recognizes her success is based on hard work, a supportive family, and support and care from the community.

Sydney, RDH

Sydney is a dedicated dental hygienist who has been helping patients achieve healthier smiles since graduating in 2015. She joined the team at Hammond Family Dental in 2019, where she is known for her gentle touch, attention to detail, and commitment to patient comfort. With a passion for preventive care and patient education, Sydney works closely with each individual to promote long-term oral health. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, and camping.

Melissa, RDH

Melissa has been a valued member of the Hammond Family Dental team since 2020, though her connection to the practice goes back even further. She previously worked with the late Dr. Ken Hammond, and her deep ties to the office reflect her long-standing dedication to patient care. Originally from Mississippi, Melissa made the Poteau area her home over 25 years ago. She takes pride in building lasting relationships with her patients and helping them achieve healthy, confident smiles. Outside the office, Melissa enjoys spending quality time with her family.

Courtney, RDH

Courtney has been an integral part of the Hammond Family Dental team since 2018, shortly after graduating from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith (UAFS) with her degree in Dental Hygiene. Her passion for providing gentle and thorough care has made her a trusted hygienist for our patients. Outside the office, Courtney keeps busy chasing after her kids, raising chickens, and tending to her garden. She loves spending time outdoors and enjoys the balance of work, family, and her hobbies. Courtney is dedicated to making every patient feel comfortable and is committed to helping them maintain healthy, beautiful smiles.

Kirstin, DA

Kirstin is a graduate of the Accelerated Dental Assisting Academy (ADAA), class of 2019. Since entering the dental field, she has remained committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care and ensuring each patient feels at ease throughout their visit. Kirstin became a valued member of the Hammond Family Dental team in 2022 and takes pride in contributing to a practice focused on promoting healthy, confident smiles. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and caring for her dogs.

Tabi, DA

Tabi has been a dedicated Dental Assistant at Hammond Family Dental since 2022. Her attention to detail, friendly attitude, and dedication to patient comfort make her a valued member of our team. She’s currently furthering her education to become a dental hygienist and is excited about expanding her role in patient care. When she’s not working or studying, Tabi enjoys relaxing with her family and spending quality time with her husband.

Misti

Patient Care Coordinator

Misti began her journey with Hammond Family Dental in 2005 as a hygiene assistant and later transitioned to a chair-side assistant for Dr. Ken Hammond. She is now a patient care coordinator, where she enjoys connecting with the patients and helping them feel comfortable and cared for. She has a deep commitment to ensuring every visit is a positive and smooth experience. Misti is a long-time resident of Poteau. She is happily married with two wonderful children. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and meeting new people. She is looking forward to continuing to serve our community for many years to come.

Brooke

Patient Care Coordinator

Brooke joined Hammond Family Dental in 2023. She is the friendly face you’ll often see first when visiting our office. As our Patient Care Coordinator, she ensures that every patient feels welcomed, informed, and cared for from the moment they walk in. Outside of the office, Brooke loves spending time with her kids, creating memories, and enjoying family activities. She’s excited to be a part of the Hammond Family Dental team and looks forward to continuing to help patients in the years to come.
